"Scaling up group and regional certification through shared experiences and collaboration amongst the PEFC alliance”
The vast majority of the world’s natural rubber is harvested and supplied by small independent landholders. For too long, sustainable forest management certification was considered out of reach for many of these rubber smallholders.
But thanks to PEFC’s group and regional certification approach, sustainable forest management certification is now a reality for millions of rubber smallholders.

18 July 2022 News
In the first webinar in our group certification series on the 27th of July, we will provide a global perspective of PEFC sustainable forest management standards and how to fulfill those standards in practice. We will also clarify how smallholders can prepare for group certification using case studies from smallholder certification successes in Laos.
Our final webinar on the 10th of August will reveal how the industry stakeholders and the private sector can contribute to pathways towards certification in Vietnam, through the examples set by our European partners in Finland and Germany.
For the 2nd webinar in our group certification series on the 3rd of August, we turn our focus to pathways towards PEFC group and regional certification through the shared experiences of our partners in Spain and Thailand.
PEFC was founded by small-scale foresters, and to make certification practical and accessible to smallholders, we introduced group certification in 2010.
Today over 1 million small forest owners have achieved PEFC certification through group certification. This is a testament that certification is possible for small landholders and that it is a powerful and cost-effective mechanism for promoting sustainable forest management.
Join us on the 3rd of August for an in-depth webinar discussing the pathways towards group and regional certification. Representatives from the Thailand Forestry Certification Council (TFCC) and PEFC Spain will share their experiences with assisting small-scale foresters to gain sustainable forest management certification through the group and regional certification programme. We will also discuss the key role of local, community-driven organisations, such as farmer cooperatives and associations, in facilitating the transition towards certification.
Join us. We welcome not only forest owners, but PEFC Asia-Pacific members, government and private sector representatives, Thai rubber industry stakeholders, and anyone who is interested in learning about the different models of the group and regional certification.
